Salon Del Mar has moved to a beautiful brand new location

World Wide Hair tour Miami 8-11 January 2012
We're now located at 1221 Flagman Way, Building A-1, Santa Fe, NM 87505 in the Baca St. Railyard District. Directions: At the Baca and Cerrillos intersection, Go west on Baca and take your first right on Flagman Way. Go north 1 block and look for us on the left. The new location is a stone throw from the current location.

The Baca area marks the southern end of the Railyard and once served as a coal and fuel storage yard for the Denver & Rio Grande and New Mexico Central railways, connected to the North Railyard site by a still visible old rail alignment across the area currently occupied by School of the Deaf. The ten acres of the original site had no paved through streets, but haul trucks exited by surrounding local roads through the adjacent Baca neighborhood. The completed Acequia Trail Easement now connects the Baca area to the North Railyard for hikers and cyclists and provides a major link in the extensive trail system throughout the city of Santa Fe and beyond. The Acequia Madre flows quietly on the west side of the trail shaded by old-growth Elm trees, and many trail connections with streets in the Sierra Vista Street neighborhood to the west are evident.

Most of the pre-existing structures in the Baca Area today are metal warehouses reminiscent of an earlier era, but the recent introduction of cutting edge contemporary architecture is bringing an exciting new modern dynamic to this historic working district.

The railyard warehouse building Salon Del Mar will occupy is one of these Metal-shelled buildings. One of its obvious great features is a very unique two-tiered floor. The raised floor once served as a storage building for the railway line that once went down Flagman Way.

This raised floor is now what serves as the salon floor. The building has a lot of natural light with windows on the west, north and south sides catching natural light all day long and great views of the Santa Fe Mountains. Some of the Infrastructure inside is created from elements recovered from the original building, its timber floors, color bar and staircase railing. It is twice the size of the original SDM but it still maintains the salons core aesthetics of warmth, style and its comfort.

It now has beautifully industrial looking free-standing mirrors on casters that can move about the salon designed by a local sculptor, metal worker Lex Lucius. This will be a great feature for when the salon doubles as an educational facility and other events the salon is likely to host.

Below on the ground level is what will house the check-in, check-out and waiting area that will also serve as shopping area where artisanal and apothecary items are available for purchase.

The Salon is also fitted with a new wall-to-wall sound system to play the music and sounds that Salon Del Mar is always remembered for.

In January 2012 The Salon Del Mar Stylist Team are attending the World Wide hair Tour in Miami.

They will be joining an estimated 1300 stylists from over 40 countries, This now notorious, international event will be overflowing with world renowned artists, shows, conferences and updates on the latest in hairdressing trends and styles.

If you’ve never been, Miami is a city of sun, sand, sophistication and pure sensuality, not to mention a playground for the jet set and contemporary art crowds. The WWHT Miami includes two dynamic days of hair shows and education at the classic Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater, including presentations by Davines Artistic Director and two-time British Hairdresser of the Year, Angelo Seminara, Allilon, Brian and Kirsten, Davines Artistic Team stylistsfrom North America and a special guest.

WORLD STYLE CONTEST 2011

Salon Del Mar are delighted to announce that Owner and Stylist Angela Del Mar reached the Semi-Finalists of the 8th edition of the Davines World Style Contest.

The Grande Finale is held on stage at the upcoming World Wide hair Tour in Miami this January 2012.

This is an international competition that brings Davines Stylists together from all over the world, offering them the opportunity to express their creativity and talent through photography and stage performance.

The World Style Contest is an annual competition which invites Davines stylists to present their vision of fashion forward, yet commercial and wearable hair, presented as a total look that best suits their model.

Salon Del Mar is proud to host the 5th installment of its ART & BEAUTY Series of art openings, featuring local and national artists.

This show features the beautiful photography of Gabriella Marks "Malta Series," They reflect the experience of exploring the island nation of Malta, from some of the oldest religious temples in the world -- including the megalithic Ġgantija temples, thought to be built by fertility cults during the Neolithic Age (c. 3600-2500 BC), potentially pre-dating Stonehenge -- to walking through ancient catacombs and forts dating back to the Crusades.

Food & Refreshments will be served as well as great music.
